London town garden

Victorian Grade II listed residence, London, UK

In progress….

A young family underwent a major renovation of their Grade II listed Victorian home including a new addition with green roof. Before buying the home, the garden had been neglected for many years resulting in a wild landscape of brambles and neglected rose bushes.

The owners prefer natural gardens, and the new garden will contain a greater amount of evergreen shrubs and trees for screening along with a heavy mix of perennials, ornamental grasses, ferns, climbers and bulbs. Once the garden was cleaned up, a brick and gravel path was discovered along a sunken walkway. This will become a feature with a series of custom designed Wisteria arches leading to the back of the garden. A tall Portugese ceramic mural was also discovered on the wall of the side garden and serendipitously becomes a focal point with a major site line. An appreciation for the Victorian’s love of travel and plants from all over the world will be respected along with the use of native plants.
