Sustainable Garden Design
Country estate garden, Campos, Mallorca, Spain
A rural landscape of 3.1 hectares is located in a beautiful natural setting with native vegetation near Campos. The client, a family with young children, requested a natural design to blend with the vernacular landscape. With three different gates into the estate, creating a central entry with a new parking area was important to define and develop. Screening plants to conceal a visible boundary to the neighbour along with a new solar panel installation were also requested. Outdoor rooms with different types of Mediterranean gardens address the client’s lifestyle and include a front garden leading to a perennial breakfast garden, a small fruit orchard, a central gathering lounge with fire feature, a dry garden exposed to full sun, a running track, and a children’s play area in the broader landscape. Native planting, drought tolerant perennials to support wildlife habitat, and some architectural plants are utilised for definition among the wilder vegetation.

Terrain: flat, heavily vegetated with wild olives, pines, and cactus surrounded by agricultural land not far from the sea, morning mist and fog in cooler months.
