Garden design renovation project - tow darl teal lounge chairs and sit next to a pool

Contemporary Garden & Pool Renovation

United States

An urban estate garden surrounded by mature trees, greenbelt and wildlife reserve were redesigned following the renovation of the home’s contemporary interiors. Structural stone retaining walls had to be maintained which were concealed with planting, creating a natural barrier while blurring the line between the built environment and the greenbelt.

The existing pool and raised spa were transformed into a simpler shape with a large spa spillway creating a soothing water feature. A dark pool surface was chosen to reflect the canopies of the mature oaks on the property, while anthracite porcelain tile contrasts with a light coloured custom pool deck.

Three types of crushed marble were used to create a custom terrazzo-like finish for the concrete. On one end of the pool, a linear concrete fire table with wood deck offers an entertaining lounge space. A massing of ornamental grass, intended to capture the natural light of the sun, connects the space to a second wood deck on the opposite end of the pool. Plants were selected to blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape while providing a range of seasonal interests, wildlife habitat, texture and structure. Paola Lenti outdoor furniture was selected to cohesively blend into the pool and lounge environment. This award winning project won recognition from the prestigious Papercity Magazine and TNLA Texas Excellence in Landscape.

Designed by Tanya K Wilson, installation Bonick Landscaping.

Terrain: urban plot sloping toward a green belt area, mature trees and shade, habitat of local wildlife.
